Pathway Improvement Project

The Scottish Government awarded the SHPBN COVID-19 recovery funding for the Pancreatic and Hepatocellular
Cancer Pathway Improvement Project

The project aims:

  1.   To enhance care alongside existing pathways utilising the existing local and regional care teams;
  2.   Facilitate early specialist review of radiology findings to enable efficient, patient-specific staging investigations prior to presentation at the regional MDT;
  3.   Facilitate early involvement of a “key worker” (local Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team) to act as a single point of contact for the patient and initiate Early Holistic Care to prevent deconditioning;
  4.   Coordinate communication between the patient, CNS, primary / secondary / regional care teams and involved Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).

The project was launched during the SHPBN 2022 education event (18th March 2022).
