The Scottish Perinatal Mental Health Care Pathways – Mother and Baby Units

Pathway 4: What’s a Mother and Baby Unit? How can it help me and my baby?

Mother and Baby Units (MBUs) are mental health wards specifically designed for mothers to be with their babies while they have the treatment they need to get better. The professionals looking after you are there not just to treat you but also to give you extra support in caring for your baby. Alongside mental health staff, the team includes nursery nurses, health visitors, parent-infant therapists, and peer support workers to make sure both you and your baby get all the help you need.
