Raigmore Hospital

Raigmore Hospital serves the whole of NHS Highland area and accepts referral from across the area including West Grampian and the Western Isles.

Patients receive the majority of their diagnostic investigations at Raigmore but can be referred to Glasgow if surgical procedures such as VATS and LAT are required. All patients are discussed at the Scottish National Mesothelioma MDT and we aim to optimise access to clinical trials were possible. Systemic treatment is given locally either at Raigmore or at one of our peripheral chemotherapy units in Wick, The Western Isles, Fort William and on Skye. Radiotherapy is given at Raigmore.

We have a pleural service, largely nurse-led, which offers pleural aspiration, US assessment, and IPC for diagnostic and symptomatic benefit.  The pleural service is delivered by three Respiratory Consultants; Dr Beth Sage, Dr Stephen Thomas and Dr Ed Paterson and by Jenn Latham and Maureen Williamson Advanced Nurses. Lucy Heycock Advanced Nurse works across respiratory and oncology. Both Jenn’s and Lucy’s posts are Mesothelioma UK adopted.

Our Oncology Lead for Mesothelioma is Dr Carol MacGregor, Macmillan Consultant in Clinical Oncology.
