Treatment for Adults

Some adults with a cleft may not currently be under the care of an NHS Cleft Team.  Many may have been discharged, or sometimes treatment took place before the Cleft Teams existed. Whatever the reason, you are entitled to treatment for issues caused by your cleft no matter what your age.

Adults may be concerned about their appearance, their speech, their hearing, the appearance and function of their teeth, or the psychological impact that having a cleft has had.

Although every attempt is made to complete cleft care by late teens, some ongoing treatment may still be required or some unmet patient need may become apparent in later years.  In addition, new approaches for management of clefts become available as time passes.

More information about leaving or returning to the Cleft Service is available at clinics or a pack can be requested from CLAPA by clicking here.
