Mental Health & Wellbeing

Pregnancy is often a happy time.  It is also a time of huge change and 1 in 5 women experience mental health difficulties during or after pregnancy, most commonly anxiety or depression.   It is common to feel anxious during and after pregnancy.   Common worries include concerns about giving birth, whether you will be a good parent and relationship changes.  Concerns about your heart health may add to these worries.

It is important that you speak to someone if you are struggling.  Your Midwife, GP or Health Visitor all have experience of helping women with emotional difficulties during this time. If it feels too much to speak to a professional, you could speak to your partner, a family member or a friend. Women sometimes find that they begin to feel better just by opening up about how they are feeling.

Remember – there is help available and you are not alone in feeling this way.
