Living with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders can be challenging both in terms of medical treatment and overall impact on many aspects of life. On top of the usual life stress, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Extra help and support can make a big difference. Everyone’s experience is different, but some examples of the topics people discuss with a psychologist include:
• Feeling overwhelmed by illness or hospital stays
• Difficulty with treatment routines
• Decision-making around treatments
• Feeling depressed or angry about your illness or treatment
• Struggles with family and personal relationships
• Challenges from receiving infected blood products for the individual or their family
• Worries about health or the future
• Family–planning concerns
• Pain management
• Sleep problems
• Grief and bereavement This service is available for children, young people and adults with inherited bleeding disorders in Scotland.
