30 November 2020 – Nanotubes, Gold and Mesothelioma 

An insight into a breakthrough study which looks at the potential of gold nanotubes – tiny hollow cylinders one thousandth of the width of a human hair – to be placed inside cancer cells, causing them to heat up and thereby kill the mesothelioma cells.

The latest Mesothelioma Matters webinar, John Edwards, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, discusses Extended Pleurectomy Decortication (EPD), what the procedure is, why it became the focus of such a large-scale clinical trial, why evidence to support the procedure or not is necessary, and if or how EPD can be accessed, whilst MARS 2 results become available.

22 February 2021 – Establishing a Mesothelioma MDT

Multidisciplinary Team Working in cancer care is well established and appreciated in the UK.  Achieving this in  rarer cancers, like mesothelioma is challenging, but given the widespread benefits of ensuring patients receive a specialist review and opinion, it is essential we overcome these challenges, if we are going to we provide an equitable optimal service for anyone affected by rarer cancers.

Experts: Dr Paul Beckett, Respiratory Physician Clinical Lead for National Lung Cancer Audit and Professor Kevin Blyth, Professor of Respiratory Medicine – University of Glasgow and Pleural Diseases Lead at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow.

29 March 2021 –  Chemo-Immunotherapy

Clinical trials will hopefully soon become available that use chemotherapy and immunotherapy at the same time. This presentation explored the pre-clinical and emerging clinical data on chemo-immunotherapy, the potential of predictive biomarkers of response, and where chemo-immunotherapy clinical trials should be considered in the management algorithm for mesothelioma.

26 April 2021 – The UK Peritoneal Mesothelioma MDT

Faheez Mohammed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Samantha Westbrook Peritoneal Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist present their experience of managing peritoneal mesothelioma including diagnosis, treatment with Cytoreductive Surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), the National Peritoneal MDT and the role of our the Peritoneal Specialist Nurse

Experts: The team from the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre talk about its Research Prioritisation Exercise which aims to identify areas of research which are a priority for patients and carers.

26 July 2021 – Mesothelioma UK Projects

This webinar introduces three Mesothelioma UK projects: 1) Meso-DAX – a new digital data collection service providing patients with ongoing feedback and support, 2) Asbestos Smart – an easy to use technological solution which gives contractors and on-site personnel immediate access to the latest asbestos register for buildings, and 3) the new Mesothelioma UK Clinical Trials App.

24 August 2021 – Combination Immunotherapy in Mesothelioma

Expert: Dr Paul Baas, Chief of the department of Thoracic Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam talks about the implementation of immunotherapy treatment in both lung cancer and mesothelioma.
