Patient Pathways

The Cleft Care Scotland Network brings together professionals involved in the care of people with Cleft lip and/or palate, third sector organisations and patients and their families to look at maintaining and optimising high quality Cleft care.

An important part of this is agreeing a care pathway for patients born with a Cleft based on current evidence and looking at it regularly to make sure the pathways still deliver the right level of care. One of our aims is to reduce the number of appointments for patients and families to attend. The pathways are evidence based and minimise the impact that attending hospital may have on you and/or your child, especially on your child’s education. If appropriate, you may be offered a virtual appointment to limit unnecessary travel and time off school/work – this can be discussed with the Cleft team. The pathway may change a little over time as we learn more about what is important and when, including what is important to you. The care pathway sets out all the things that need to be done at certain times so that we can make sure, where possible, everything is covered and you are only asked to come to appointments when necessary. Any changes to the pathways will not affect the quality of care you or your child receives and if you are unsure of anything please contact the Cleft team.

We are of course happy to review you/your child out with any of these points if you have any concerns. If you have any questions or if you think an appointment is due, please contact the Surgical Service administration team based in Glasgow on 0141 451 6524 or e-mail ggc.cleftteamscotland@nhs.scot and they can advise you.
