Guidelines

NHS Scotland has referral guidelines for suspected cancer and they are on the Healthcare Improvement Scotland website.  They are based on the bone tumour and soft tissue sarcoma referral guidelines developed by the Network for each of the 14 NHS Boards in Scotland that are now being replaced by sarcoma patient pathways.

Scottish clinical management guidelines for bone tumours, soft tissue sarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) and cutaneous sarcomas are available from the sarcoma page of the West of Scotland Cancer Network intranet website but are only accessible within the NHS network.

Scottish guidelines for sarcoma treatments, surgery, radiotherapy and palliative care have been retired and please refer to clinical management guidelines for bone, GIST and soft tissue.

The guidelines outline the recommended treatment pathway for patients, promoting the equitable provision of high quality care. Guidelines are not designed to substitute the role of the clinician but to support the most appropriate treatment decisions taken within the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
