Patients and carers needed to take part in a study exploring the experience of people living with pleural mesothelioma for three or more years

An important study is running at the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre at The University of Sheffield investigating the experience of people who have been living with pleural mesothelioma for three years or more.

The study aims to understand the physical, practical and emotional impact of living with, undergoing treatment for, and coping with a long-term diagnosis of mesothelioma from the point of view of patients and their primary carer. From this we hope to be able to make recommendations about the care and support offered to people affected by this disease.

The team have now completed the initial interviews with people diagnosed with mesothelioma and their main carer. We are now looking for people to join two online focus groups being held in early December (dates to be confirmed). There will be separate focus groups for people diagnosed with mesothelioma and for carers. These will last around an hour and a half.

Participants should be:

  • aged over 18 years
  • able to communicate fluently in English
  • diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma three or more years ago

or

  • an informal carer to a person diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma for three or more years

We would be very grateful if you could consider joining one of these groups. If you meet the criteria and would like to find out more about taking part in this study, please call the Mesothelioma UK information line on 0800 169 2409 or email info@mesothelioma.uk.com

Alternatively, you can contact the lead researcher, Dr Matt Johnson, on 07531978548 or email matthew.johnson@sheffield.ac.uk

Thank you!
