{"id":4325,"date":"2022-11-09T11:32:01","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T11:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smvn.scot.nhs.uk\/?page_id=4325"},"modified":"2026-03-09T11:39:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T11:39:30","slug":"molecular-diagnostics-subgroup","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/about-us\/groups\/molecular-diagnostics-subgroup","title":{"rendered":"Molecular Diagnostics Subgroup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This group was established in 2021, and it aims to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Embed molecular diagnostics as vital tools for clinical decision making, patient safety, infection prevention and control and public health in all Health Boards (HBs).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working at a HB level, or as a distributed service model where appropriate, expand the repertoire of molecular diagnostic tests offered by HBs to ensure equity of care for patients across Scotland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide expert opinion on laboratory based molecular diagnostics in Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology and Mycology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with colleagues from relevant groups, provide expert opinion on rapid \/ point of care \/ near patient molecular diagnostics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gather intelligence on the nature of laboratory requests that are referred to reference laboratories out with NHSS, and work towards repatriating such tests where possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collate and monitor guidelines for the implementation of molecular diagnostics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Audit the clinical and laboratory impact of molecular diagnostics; support local HBs and NHSS in building business cases for the implementation of new molecular tests\/work-streams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is timely to start building on the legacy of significant investment in molecular (PCR) diagnostics in response to the COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in significant molecular testing capacity in all NHS Health Boards\u2019 Microbiology &amp; Virology Departments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"nhsuk-card__description\">This group was established in 2021, and it aims to It is timely to start building on the legacy of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":0,"parent":4382,"menu_order":6,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-4325","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/4325","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4325"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/4325\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4800,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/4325\/revisions\/4800"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/4382"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/smvn\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4325"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
