{"id":2890,"date":"2020-03-04T13:01:51","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T13:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scottishmesotheliomanetwork.scot.nhs.uk\/?page_id=2890"},"modified":"2026-06-04T10:25:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T09:25:27","slug":"mdt","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/scottishmesotheliomanetwork\/professionals\/mdt\/","title":{"rendered":"MDT"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The aim of the Scottish Mesothelioma MDT is to discuss and plan the management of all patients with a confirmed new diagnosis of mesothelioma and all patients where a diagnostic or therapeutic decision needs multidisciplinary input i.e patients with progressive disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MDT ensures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Decisions regarding diagnosis, treatment and care are based on national guidelines and protocols where these exist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prompt effective multidisciplinary decision making<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients and with their consent, carers, are involved as partners in timely decisions and receive information about their treatment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improves co-ordination, communication and information flows with all appropriate health care professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All mechanisms are in place to support entry of eligible patients into clinical trials, subject to patients giving fully informed consent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistance with clinical audit that informs the changes required to improve the quality of patient care through Quality Performance Indicators (QPIs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To act as a multi-professional education forum ensuring continuous professional development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weekly Scotland Wide&nbsp;<strong>Mesothelioma MDT<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The MDT meeting is held on a weekly basis and is attended by Respiratory Consultants and Clinical Nurse Specialists from multiple sites across Scotland as well as consultants from Radiology, Pathology, Oncology, Cardiothoracic surgery and Palliative Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MDT Referral Process&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To refer a patient to the Scottish National MDT, please complete all non-shaded sections of the MDT referral form (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/scottishmesotheliomanetwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2026\/06\/National-Mesothelioma-MDT-referral-form-V5.xlsx\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/scottishmesotheliomanetwork\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2026\/06\/National-Mesothelioma-MDT-referral-form-V5.xlsx\">Scottish Mesothelioma Referral Form V5<\/a>)\u00a0and email to\u00a0<a>scottish.mesotheliomamdt@nhs.scot<\/a>\u00a0 The Mesothelioma MDT is held every Friday at 13:30.
