Allergies currently affect an estimated 30% of children in Scotland, with allergic conditions including allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, allergic asthma, atopic eczema, food allergies, allergies to latex, insect venom and drugs and anaphylaxis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allergic reactions can range from mild rashes and sneezing attacks, to distressing widespread hives and skin swelling, breathing difficulties and in the most severe cases life threatening anaphylaxis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allergies can have an impact on a child\u2019s physical, social and emotional wellbeing, affecting performance at school, relationships with family and friends and social outings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CYANS, the Children and Young People\u2019s Allergy Network Scotland, is a National Managed Clinical Network<\/a> that has been established to focus on improving health service provision for children and young people with allergies in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CYANS was developed as a result of\u00a0a review of allergy services in Scotland\u00a0which highlighted the need for improvements in allergy service provision and is funded by the Scottish government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
