{"id":1753,"date":"2017-09-07T13:16:44","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T12:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cen.scot.nhs.uk\/?page_id=1753"},"modified":"2023-10-03T18:37:11","modified_gmt":"2023-10-03T17:37:11","slug":"cen-criteria","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/about-national-managed-clinical-networks\/cen-criteria\/","title":{"rendered":"CEN Criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CEN Definition and Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Managed Clinical Network for Children with Exceptional healthcare needs (CEN) was established&nbsp;in March 2009 with the aim of strengthening services for children with complex and exceptional healthcare needs in&nbsp;Scotland.&nbsp; The network looks to focus for&nbsp;audit and research purposes, the smaller group of children and young people with exceptional healthcare needs.&nbsp; The information obtained on the issues in the care of exceptional healthcare needs children and the recommendations and training based on this, &nbsp;will not only affect the future care of exceptional healthcare needs children but also the wider group of complex needs children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CEN assessment criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The six impairment categories used for assessing the children and young people are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>learning and mental functions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>motor skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>self care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hearing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A child or young person (up to the age of 19) is defined as having exceptional healthcare needs if they:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have severe impairment recorded in at least 4 categories together with enteral\/ parenteral feeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have severe impairment recorded in at least 2 categories and require ventilation\/CPAP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AND<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the impairments are sustained and ongoing or expected to last for more than 6 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Data is now being collected using the Clinical Audit System (CAS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cen.scot.nhs.uk\/cen-clinical-audit-system\/\">here For Patients and Families<\/a> or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cen.scot.nhs.uk\/cen-clinical-audit-system-for-professionals\/\">here for Professionals<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"nhsuk-card__description\">CEN Definition and Criteria The National Managed Clinical Network for Children with Exceptional healthcare needs (CEN) was established&nbsp;in March 2009 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"parent":8,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-1753","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1753","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1753"}],"version-history":[{"count":14,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1753\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":12257,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/1753\/revisions\/12257"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/8"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.nn.nhs.scot\/cen\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1753"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
